Ideas to help you choose and interview a pet sitter

We believe it’s always a good idea to begin with friends and neighbors when deciding to hire a sitter.

If you’re unsure with your first choice and/or interview, interview others until you find the one that makes you feel the most comfortable. After all, you’re going to be allowing this person access to your home and in addition, trusting your pet’s needs to this person. We recommend a short phone interview first and we’ve listed a few questions below to ask potential sitters.

  • How much experience do they have?
  • Do they have liability insurance?
  • Are they bonded?
  • Is the sitter you’re meeting with going to be the sitter visiting your pets and your home?
  • Do they have references?
  • Are their fees comparable to other sitters? Beware of sitters whose fees are significantly lower
  • Will they be able to provide transportation to the veterinarian if needed?
  • Are they comfortable with your pets during the initial interview?
  • If your pet has medical issues, how experienced is the sitter to handle those issues?
